Like The Winds
Like The Winds is a didactic novel with a
difference. In Africa the sub-genre very often means a simplistic Fanonist
Marxism, with 'revolution' proposed as the answer to the continent's problems.
Nenpan Monday instead takes her inspiration from those great advocates of
non-violence protest Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King and Nelson Mendela, and
it leads her to propose a 'way out' that marks the novel's climax. …the story,
which centres on the aspirations of a poor rural boy, is told with a fine
mixture of passion, pathos, and humour. It deserves to be widely read.
